TLcom Capital’s new African venture capital firm has added a high-profile hire, as Eloho Omame, co-founder and co-managing partner at FirstCheck Africa, has joined the firm as a Partner!🎉 The venture capital firm is known for funding seed to Series B stages. Their portfolio has startups like Ajua, uLesson, Ilara Health, Twiga and Kobo360.
Omame’s work at FirstCheck, which has always been about getting more female founders the representation that they need in the tech startup and VC scene, will follow founders from their pre-seed stages through their journey. She invested a total of $12 million (including this commitment from TLcom Capital alongside its $10 million debut fund) into FirstCheck as her first act as a new partner.
We are excited about the multiple possibilities of funding and success for female founders and their startups. Congratulations, Eloho Omame! 🥳🥳
There’s more! 😎
Co-founders of PiggyVest, Odunayo Eweniyi, Somto Ifezue and Joshua Chibueze, were recently selected as Endeavor Entrepreneurs at the 28th Virtual International Selection Panel (vISP) which was held on the 22nd of June, 2022.
The ISP is the “culmination of a rigorous multi-step selection process to identify high-impact entrepreneurs who demonstrate the potential to leverage Endeavor’s resources and mentorship to create large-scale wealth and jobs and are committed to reinvesting their time and resources in their local entrepreneurship ecosystems to help others take off.”
PiggyVest is now the 16th company selected into the global Endeavor network through the regional affiliated office in Nigeria. Eweniyi, Ifezue and Chibueze were selected because of their dedication and commitment to the ecosystem. They are said to have represented the growing expectations for entrepreneurs who are exceptional, ambitious and eager to execute at scale.
Congratulations to the team! 🥂
That’s not all! 🤭😁
Nexford University, a Washington DC-based next-generation university, and PiggyVest have come together to offer “affordable and uninterrupted education” to up-skill students affected by the ongoing ASUU strike. The first stage will host 40 people and assist them in advancing their skills in Business Analytics, Product Management, 360 Degrees Marketing, and Digital Transformation. 100% of the tuition fees for a select number of programs will be covered by PiggyVest.
According to Eweniyi, “As a company founded by young Nigerians who had the fortune to meet in university, we’re more than committed to playing a part, however small, in making sure that undergraduates affected by the ongoing strike have an avenue to continue learning. We’re partnering with Nexford University on this initiative because we sincerely believe continuous learning is essential to development. We hope that access to these courses, that build some of the most in-demand skills today, is a start.”
In case you missed it:
The Abeg App has been rebranded and is now known as Pocket by PiggyVest! A bit mouthy, we know. According to them, they want users to access all the added functionalities to buy & sell items via virtual pocket shops as they have fully expanded into a social commerce platform. As a social commerce platform, they have also secured an Approval-In-Principle (AIP) from the Central Bank of Nigeria for their Mobile Money License. What does this mean for their customers? They simply said, “More.”
Exciting times indeed!
Twitter is currently testing a feature that allows users to start a Twitter Space about an individual tweet. The idea behind this is to make it easier for users to give their opinion on something and reach more people. Sounds like chaos brewing to be honest. 😂😂
Hopefully, Twitter will up its measures against harassment on the social app soon.
