“Get An Accountability Partner. Someone who isn't scared of you... Or your antics. But cares enough about you to tell you The Truth... And will push you when you don't want to be pushed." — Pinterest.

So Shall We?
Some years back, I joined a women-only group that asked us to choose an accountability partner either for each month or for as long as we wanted. While I didn't outright choose one, I became friends with a lady in the group. She would ask how my day went and what I did, and we’d talk about it.
Sometimes, when I didn't do much work for the day, I would read a book or go on YouTube to learn something new. I did this because I wanted to have something to say when she talked about how eventful her day was. I look forward to it.
There was a time when I randomly rambled about wanting to post more of my work online, and she took it seriously. Because of her, I started posting and documenting my little wins online. She was my personal cheerleader. I was that for her too, you know, keeping tabs and cheering her on. Around December last year, when we were talking about how much we had accomplished, she said, “Thank you.” When I asked why she said that, she replied “For those little pushes.”
It was then I realised that even though I didn't officially pick an accountability partner, we had become that for each other.
“Those little pushes.” That’s why we need accountability partners.
Someone who holds you accountable.
Someone who makes imposter syndrome dead on arrival.
Someone who celebrates your wins and progress with you.
Someone who encourages you to leave your comfort zone.
Imagine taking a course online and having someone check in on you at the end of each week to ask how far you have gone. When you know someone is expecting an update from you, you become motivated to continue, you show up especially because you know they are doing the same. You start making promises not just to yourself, but to them too.
Having an accountability partner helps you stay consistent and focused.
An accountability partner is not your mentor. In fact, it is even better when it is someone who is on a similar journey with you, maybe someone studying the same course or working in the same industry. When you find that person, set goals together, share weekly updates and to-do lists, anything that works for you.
Always be honest with them.
Do you feel overwhelmed? Let them know.
Do you need help? Talk to them.
Was your week messy and you didn't do much? Don't pretend, just say it as it is.
This is why it is really important that your partner is someone you are comfortable with, someone who is also interested in growing and is not afraid to tell you the truth.
Accountability is not one-sided; it takes two intentional people who really want to succeed.
So, if you don't have anyone yet, now is the time to find someone to hold you accountable. You honestly cannot even begin to imagine the power of accountability, and how it can totally change your life for better.
If you have been feeling stuck, tired, or overwhelmed, maybe you don't need any more motivation. Maybe all you need is someone to walk the journey with.
Reach out to that person today and experience consistent growth.
