“Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, creativity, or curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it and make it the life you want to live.” – Mae Jemison, first African American woman astronaut in space.
So Shall We?
I am an introvert, of course; I freak out when I want to introduce myself in public or talk to new people. Pheew,😪, It felt so nice to get that out of my chest.
As a woman in tech, networking is a very common and proven way to grow and succeed in the tech industry. But what happens to introverts like us who can't stay in an unfamiliar place for long, let alone make eye contact, talk to strangers, and network? I don't know about other introverts, but I get shy around people, and I try my best to avoid contact with them.
However, I realise there’s a need to network and put ourselves out there to grow, so here is what we can do to achieve that:
Online networking - While it might be difficult to talk to people physically, doing it online seems like a great choice. We can optimise our online profiles and use our social media platforms to put our works out there, engage with other people's content, connect with people in our field, and reach out to them online.
Not only this, we can also go to events/conferences with someone we are comfortable with, take breaks during the event to get fresh air, and write down questions to ask people so they can do the talking instead of the other way around. Finally, we should try to compliment others and listen to them when they speak.
