So Shall We?
Today’s newsletter is going to be short because, honestly, you should either be in bed resting, watching a movie, celebrating Eid, or getting ready to beg for meat, anything, as long as you're not behind your laptop working.
But before you log off, let’s talk.
There is a saying that goes, “If every pot you cook in burns the food, maybe it is time to check your fire.” This means, if the same problem keeps happening over and over again, it is time to check the root cause and know what you might need to change.
Why am I saying this? If you have sent over 30, 50, or maybe even 100+ tech applications and you keep getting rejected, maybe it is time to take a few steps back to check. You might not be doing anything wrong, but you need to make sure you are doing everything right, and here is how you can do that:
Check your resume and make sure it is well optimised for ATS (Applicant Tracking System). Sometimes your resume gets filtered out before a human sees it. This is why you need to use the keywords from the job description, include experience that matches the role, add the relevant skills mentioned, and if you have metrics that show impact, please, by all means, show them.
Make sure your portfolio is up to date. Add your best projects and make it easy to understand and navigate.
Optimise your LinkedIn page because recruiters check there too. Use a clear keyword headline, add a short but strong bio, highlight your skills, and stay active by posting and engaging.
Lastly, ask for feedback from your seniors and peers. Let them review your resume, portfolio, and even, LinkedIn page.
Job hunting can be very exhausting, and while sometimes, it is not your fault, you need to be sure you have done everything within your power to stand out. This way, you can be confident to apply for more jobs knowing that all it takes is just that “one yes.”
So go ahead, rest, celebrate, and re-strategise so you can come back stronger.
